Analysis of Contents Page
The main picture on the contents is of Franz Ferdinand. They have been put on the contents page show that in this magazine there is more modern music not just Motown music. The picture is in black and white so it fits in with the theme of the front cover which is black and white and it also makes it look classy. Also when Motown music was around there were only black and white pictures, so it makes the magazine feel more old and classy.
The title is at the top of the page in larger font, bold text and also every letter is in capitals so it stands out. The magazine wants it to stand out because MOJO connotes get up and go and dance which is linked very well with the special issue because Motown music is feel good music and music you can dance to.
There is a subtitle that says features, this is to show the things that are only in this issue not in every issue. The word features is in a slightly larger font, bold text, capital writing and in the colour red so it stands out. They also use the colour red for the chapter numbers of the contents and the colour red for “FRANZ FERDINAD’S FAME N FISTICUFF’S”. The magazine uses the colour red because red connotes danger so it makes the band look cool and stands out a lot to the reader.
Each of the chapter headings on the cover is in a larger font, bold text and also every letter is in capitals, so it stands out. Also the writing is in white text because it stands out from the black back ground
It also has the data of the magazine and the issue so the reader knows that they’ve got the latest issue.
On the contents page it says “2648 West Grand Boulevard” this is the location of the Motown museum in Detroit this links to the issue been one to celebrate 50 years since the launch of Motown records.

  1. "When Motown music was around there were only black and white pictures" - colour photography has been around since 1861!
You could go into a lot more detail about the generic conventions of contents pages, i.e. the relationship between numbers and text and what this connotes, the use of pull quotes, etc. See us for more details.
